And no-one saw The Carny go
\nThe weeks flew by
\n‘Til they moved on the show
\nLeaving his caravan behind<\/p>\n

It was parked out on the south-east ridge
\nAnd as the company crossed the bridge
\nWith the first rain filling the bone-dry river bed
\nIt shone just so upon the edge<\/p>\n

Away! Away! We’re sad to say!<\/p>\n

Dog-boy, Atlas, Mandrake, the Geeks, the hired hands
\nThere was not one among them that did not cast an eye behind
\nIn the hope that The Carny would return to own kind<\/p>\n

The Carny left behind a horse all skin and bone
\nThat he’d named ‘Sorrow’
\nAnd it was a shallow, unmarked grave
\nThat that old nag was laid
\nIn the then parched meadow<\/p>\n

And it was the dwarves that were given the task of digging the ditch
\nAnd laying the nag’s carcass in ground
\nWhile Boss Bellini waved his smoking pistol around
\nSaying, “the nag was dead meat
\nWe can’t afford to carry dead weight”<\/p>\n

While the whole company standing about
\nNot making a sound
\nAnd turning to the dwarves perched upon the enclosure gate
